Students Care Service Launches EMIT!
The Students Care Service launched EMIT! at Nee Soon East Community Club on 29 August 2009. The launch brought together our students and their families to celebrate the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
Guest-of-Honour, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, and MP for Nee Soon East Constituency, graced the launch and encouraged our students to take an active interest in the upcoming YOG and be involved in one way or another. The year-long EMIT! project is organised by Students Care Service to celebrate and support the inaugural YOG in Singapore in 2010. This project serves to promote the values of YOG to our students besides raising awareness of the event to them.
More than 400 visitors, sponsors, volunteers, and representatives of several National Sport Associations (NSAs) attended the event.
The event was a colourful one where visitors could engage in different activities lined up for them. The day started off with Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee launching the event, followed by a series of stage performances by our students. Though young, the student performers impressed all with their amazing talents – dancing, singing, drumming and even circus acts!
Besides the entertaining performances, the Community Club was abuzz with activities – basketball 3-on-3 tournament, and interactive booths, which included the popular photo-taking and Wii Games Challenge. Many visitors also took the opportunity to sign up for the upcoming EMIT! Set-a-Record event.
Visitors also got to try-out some sports of the Youth Olympic Games. Athletes and members of the Singapore Weightlifting Federation shared tips with youths who were game enough to try the sport, while Fencing Singapore was eager to welcome young children to give fencing a shot as well!
Other highlights of the day include the EMIT! 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and the Knock-out Challenge – a very quick-paced game introduced to Students Care Service by volunteers from the United States of America.
We take this opportunity to thank, and acknowledge the generous sponsorship from Sembawang Shipyard Ltd and Nee Soon East Community Club. Their strong support had helped to make the launch of EMIT! possible and a resounding success!
