Learning Outcome:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
  1. Implement supervision models in supervision work.

  2. Analyze Supervisee's level of competency and needs.

  3. Examine the concept of self supervisor and self supervisee.

  4. Apply strategies to structure supervision sessions.

Target Participants

Social work professionals who work in an elderly setting. This may include counsellors, para-counsellors, junior counsellors, social workers, therapists, case managers, nurses and volunteers who work with the elderly.

The skills and knowledge for this course, which the learner is assumed to possess, are as follows:

  • Be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6

  • Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6

  • Be able to use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 6

Trainer Profile

Ms Ang Kai Fen

Kai Fen is the Lead Social Worker of SHINE Children and Youth Services. A registered social worker, Kai Fen specialises in children and youth work, group work and supervision of staff.

Kai Fen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from National University of Singapore. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Practice and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision from Care and Counselling Centre.

As a passionate believer and driver of supervision, Kai Fen plays a key role in the setting up of a supervisors community within SHINE to enable supervisors to come together regularly and support each other through their supervision journey. She constantly organises onboarding sessions for new supervisors within SHINE and is also involved in sharing of new or good practices to the SHINE’s Supervisors Community.

She has also co-presented the topic on: An Onboarding Framework for Becoming Supervisors at the 2021 Seminar on Social Work Supervision organised by Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board (SWAAB).
