Walk with Me Peer Supporters

Updated: Mar 9

📌 This is the final run and last chance for potential volunteers to sign up if they are keen

📌 Play a key role in journeying with youths at risk/engaging in Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI)

📌 The Peer Supporter will befriend and journey with the youth over a period of 6 months, through supportive check-ins and regular meetups (i.e. interest-based activities that promote mental wellness)

📌 Work alongside another Peer Supporter in providing a listening ear and social support, guiding and supporting youths to empower them to enhance their emotional regulation, interpersonal and coping skills

📌 Walk with Me (WWM) is a pilot peer support programme for youths/service users aged 15-25 who are engaging/at risk of NSSI.

📌 WWM aims to reduce prevalence of NSSI behaviors and improve youths' mental wellness in the longer run. This is an add-on service, to complement and support existing professional intervention.

📌There will be 2 runs, across a 1-year time frame (Sept 22 – Aug 23).

📌 Programme objectives for youths/service users include (1) increasing their social assets, (2) strengthening their interpersonal skills, (3) social support-seeking behaviors as well as (4) emotional regulation and coping skills.

📌 Programme also aims to build up a community of peer supporters, that feel empowered in their ability to effect change and advocate for youths with NSSI in society.

📌 Programme objectives for peer supporters/volunteers include (1) equipping them with knowledge of the needs of youths with NSSI to facilitate advocacy and (2) increasing self-efficacy of peer supporters in providing empathetic emotional support to youths with/at risk of NSSI.
