1) Youth Corp Development at SHINE


About programme


SHINE partners with Youth Corps Singapore to establish the SG Cares - Youth Corps Development Team @ SHINE Children & Youth Services (YCDT @ SHINE).


Our Goal Is To:

  • Support agencies in building Youth Volunteer Management Capabilities in the community care sector.

  • Roll out Community Service Programmes.

  • Grow Youth Volunteering Communities in Singapore.


In Order To:

  • Strengthen the local volunteering ecosystem.

  • Create locale-based youth volunteering opportunities.


And We Do This Through:

  • Partnerships with SG Cares Volunteer Centres, Social Service Agencies, and Public Service Agencies.

  • Recruitment, training, and deployment of volunteers.

  • Enhancing existing and implementing new programs to address community needs.


For YCD volunteering opportunities, we welcome all youths / young adults aged between 16 – 35 years old.


Children Programmes



Coding Games For Kids (CGFK) - ad-hoc, various dates as below


The Holiday Fun Series is back! Join us to enrich yourself and spark coding interest with children to support their development in logical thinking via an online coding game, CodeSpark! Volunteers are given flexibility in availing themselves for the program sessions.

Join our interstellar mission to empower the next generation to protect and preserve our planet! SPACE is a programme to introduce children to environmental conservation through various modes of activities. Volunteer befrienders are welcome to sign up for any session shifts according to their flexibility and comfort. Orientation & Training will be conducted on the day of the volunteering session. This program is done in partnership with Promisedland Community Services.

Senior Programmes


Onwards to Ageing Holistically! (OTAH!) aims to befriend seniors through a variety of activities designed to engage in them holistically in various aspects – Social, Physical, Digital, Environment, and Creative. Engage in fun games and bond with the seniors! Volunteers are given flexibility in availing themselves for the program at preferred sessions as indicated below. Project AL:PHA hopes to provide seniors with the opportunity to use photography as a means of self-expression, reflection and intergenerational connections, with your volunteering support. As a volunteer, you will engage seniors in reflective storytelling through photography walks, enhancing their well-being holistically and delaying cognitive degeneration. Volunteers are to attend Orientation & Training conducted on 29 Nov 2023, and allowed the flexibility to attend any subsequent engagement sessions. Project AL:PHA is conducted in partnership with New Hope Transit Point @ Margret Drive.

A regular program where youth volunteers will team up with senior volunteers to conduct home visits and in ensuring the well-being of seniors in the community. Volunteers are to commit to the Orientation & Training session on 18 Nov, followed by all engagement sessions stated. This is our 4th run of Project Rose conducted in partnership with Sembawang Volunteer Centre, Blossom Seeds.

2) Reading Odyssey - A Journey to Empower Young Readers


The Reading Odyssey is a transformative reading program aimed at children with low reading ability. This community-driven initiative, powered by inter-agency collaborations and volunteers, focuses on:


  • Implementing a guided reading approach.

  • Cultivating information processing skills in children.

  • Enhancing the well-being and social mobility of children.

  • Ensuring their meaningful inclusion in society.


The programme primarily serves vulnerable primary school children, particularly those affected by challenging social circumstances or unmet needs. As of December 2022, the program has touched the lives of over 800 children and engaged more than 800 volunteers.


Requirements:

  • Typically, Reading Odyssey runs twice a year commencing in January and July with minimum of 14 sessions each run (1 pre-test, 12 reading sessions + 1 post-test).

  • Training will also be provided prior to the commencement of programme.
