About School Social Work Services
We aim to support students by building their social and emotional competencies, strengthening their internal resources, and fostering meaningful connections with peers and school.
By working across schools, families, and communities, we create a supportive environment that enables students to reach their full potential.

Our School Social Work services are delivered through a range of interventions, including group work, after-school engagements, leadership development, community-based programmes beyond school hours, casework and counselling, and the Attached Youth Worker model.
Grounded in a whole-school systemic approach, we engage the different people in a student’s life—school, family, peers, and the individual to provide coordinated and holistic support. Complementing this, our community–school approach links community resources to our partnering schools and extends support beyond school hours, ensuring students are supported across both school and community settings.
Since our beginnings in 1976 supporting students facing academic challenges arising from social circumstances, SHINE has contributed significantly to the development of school social work in Singapore. In 2008, we were appointed by the National Council of Social Service as the Centre of Specialisation in School Social Work, in recognition of our expertise in this field.

Dedicated On-Site Support
Beyond our structured programmes, SHINE provides essential direct support through our Attached Youth Worker (AYW) model. These dedicated professionals are deployed directly into partner schools, ensuring students have immediate and consistent access to a trusted professional for social-emotional support and guidance during school hours.
The AYW is key to early intervention and integrated support, providing individualised counselling, ad-hoc group work, and working closely with school staff to manage the dynamic welfare needs of the student population.
