About Educational Psychology Services
Helping Children Grow with Confidence in Learning
Our Educational Psychology Service (EPS), strives to serve children and youth with learning difficulties through assessment and targeted interventions to strengthen foundational learning skills. We work closely with caregivers, equipping them through parent education and engagement sessions to better understand and support their child’s learning journey.
The programmes are designed with the aim to develop life-long learners, improving opportunities for educational and life success.

About Educational Psychology Services
ALPS - Actualising Learning Potential of Students
A programme that supports children 6 to 12 years of age facing educational risk by strengthening their learning, literacy and language abilities, while also promoting practice of cognitive and social skills essential for lifelong learning.
Our Reading Intervention Approach
We use a research-backed, structured approach to build strong reading foundations with comprehension as the ultimate goal.
Children work in small groups of 3–4, matched by learning ability, across five key areas: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and sentence structure. Sessions are multisensory, hands-on, and tailored to each child's needs.

Fariq’s Journey: Building Confidence Through Literacy Support
When Fariq first joined SHINE’s ALPS literacy and language intervention programme, he struggled significantly with reading, was largely non-verbal, and often unresponsive to basic instructions—challenges that affected both his learning and social engagement.
Based on initial screening, a Learning Specialist developed a personalised intervention plan, building rapport through simple conversations, choice-based questions, consistent modelling, and repetition, while gently encouraging Fariq and affirming each small step forward.
Through cognitive skill-building and multi-sensory techniques, his word recognition and reading abilities steadily improved, and after five months, he was reading beyond Kindergarten 1 level. More importantly, Fariq began to engage—greeting his Learning Specialist, sharing about his day in simple sentences, volunteering answers during sessions, and demonstrating improvements in comprehension, memory retention, and task independence.
His progress extended beyond the programme, with his teacher observing increased confidence in reading, participating in class discussions, and taking greater ownership of his learning.
